Tibetan
Institute of Performing Arts' (TIPA) Case Studies
TIPA
is one of the oldest Tibetan performing groups in exile. They started to give Tibetans some entertainment and hope after leaving their
homes. They were vital in boosting morale and informing people of the
situations. Now their role is to preserve our traditional opera,
dance, musical instruments, singing as well as other artistic skills
such as costume making, scenery construction and painting.

Tenzin,
born in 1976, was admitted into TIPA as a Trainee Tailor.
He
was sent to India by his father at a young age to study, his mother passed away at a young age. Now he
wants to become a good tailor and return to Tibet so he can
be reunited with his father and look after him in his old age.
Without any family support in India, TIPA needs sponsors to ensure they
can keep providing for him till he finishes his tailoring
training.

Tenzin
Donsel, is admitted into TIPA for her keen interest in the Tibetan
performing arts. Her family are very poor, therefore she is in need of
sponsorship to ensure she can continue to develop her interest and
talents in Tibetan performing arts, opera, traditional dances and
singing.
When she completes her secondary school
she can go on to become a junior artist at TIPA and develop her interest
by joining the TIPA's performing artists or she could go to College. Her stay at TIPA will ensure that she can carry forward
many of the skills she learnt and in doing so preserve some of these Traditional
skills.
