Tibet Film Festival 2009 - Image Reflections on Tibet
Jointly presented by Tibet House Trust & Through an Exile Lens
Project
As part of our aim to help preserve and promote Tibetan identity
and culture, Tibet House Trust in pleased to hold the Tibet Film
Festival 2009 in partnership with Through an Exile Lens Project.
10th March 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan
National Uprising which was suppressed by Communist China's
"People's Liberation Army", leading to the escape of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama and tens of thousands of Tibetan men, women
and children to India and neighbouring countries. Since then,
despite many constraints, Tibetans, both in and outside Tibet, have
ongoing and in 1989, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and
temporal leader of the Tibetan people, was awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize.
The festival largely focuses o new films made by
independent filmmakers, both Tibetan and from around the world. The
aim of his festival is to enable audiences to gain a deeper
understanding of the Tibet issue and the value of Tibet's unique
culture, art and way of life encompassing Buddhist principles of
compassion and non-violence. We also hope that this festival will
encourage Tibetan filmmakers, especially young and emerging talent,
in using and exploring film as a means of creative expression.
The rich and vibrant Tibetan culture is a part of our common
world heritage and has the potential to serve humanity at large. In
view of the gravity of the situation in Tibet and the challenges
faced by Tibetans, we welcome your thoughts, prayers and support in
helping us to fulfil the humane needs of the Tibetan people and in
our continued efforts to sustain and keep the Tibetan culture alive.
