Based on
our past experiences dealing with emergency situations - starting with
Tibet Snow Storm, Ladakh Snow, Orissa Cyclone, Manali Fire to the Ladakh
Flood etc., we realised the need to create an Emergency Relief Fund to
provide the rapid action needed in times of such disasters. This was
introduced during the photo-exhibition in June 2002. Our target is to
raise atleast GBP 30,000 for such emergency situation. We have raised
£1500 from the donations we received during the photoexhibition at the
St.Martin-in-thefields Gallery.
For the
most recent Drought Relief aid to Hunsur & Chowkur in the South
India, the Trust provided £30,000 from our own funds. This is in
addition to the Rs.15,00,000 we raised for the Mundgod Drought Relief
aid. Our funding will help these farmers to buy their seeds and
fertilizers for next year and keep the family hearth burning this year.
We may not be so fortunate the next time disaster strikes.
